What are shrimp?

If you are like me and have a child who is obsessed with the Wild Kratts, you may have seen the episode where Chris becomes Shrimpy Chris. It’s actually a pretty interesting episode all about how flamingoes get their pink.

In watching this episode, we learn that shrimp have superpowers. They in fact have ten limbs, feathery legs, aquatic respiration, and salt toleration! Shrimp are decapod crustaceans and can walk or swim, although they’re better at swimming.

When we talk about the shrimp we eat, most of the time you’ll see the generic term “white shrimp”. Usually, white shrimp is Pacific white shrimp or whiteleg shrimp. It’s the kind you can buy raw in a clear blueish color. Then, when it’s cooked, it becomes the solid pink we know and love.

There are many other kinds of shrimp, but the white shrimp is the one you’ll see most often.

So are shrimp keto friendly?

The emphatic answer to that question is yes, shrimp are keto friendly!
