This low carb side dish is so much fun because it’s such a simple recipe. It’s nearly the same texture as potatoes, not exact, but super-close and can be incorporated into many different meals.

In one serving, or 100 g of radishes, there is 1 gram of protein, 2 grams dietary fiber, 1 gram net carbs, and 16 calories. That’s about six medium-sized radishes.

Do air fryer-cooked radishes taste good?

Yes, they do! I have to say because I love my air fryer, I’ve come to love radishes too. They have a bit of a peppery taste to them, which I enjoy. When you air fry the radishes, they take on the flavor of the spices or herbs with them.

These roasted vegetables are one of my favorite keto-friendly side dishes, and my non-keto husband even shovels them down. Really.

🍽 Equipment for air fried radishes

All you need to cook an air fryer radish is an air fryer oven and something to get them out. The trick is to get them out without burning yourself. In fact, I recommend using tongs or silicone gloves to avoid burning your fingers on the hot air fryer basket.

Also, I like to chop them up or make radish slices so you’ll need a knife and cutting board as well.

🥘 Ingredients needed for air fryer radishes

  • 3 large bunches of organic radishes (about 40, 3/4-1-inch in diameter)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive or avocado oil
  • 2 tsp dried rosemary
  • fresh parsley, sliced green onions, or basil to garnish (optional)

How to prepare raw radishes

The first task in this low carb side is to prepare the radishes. There’s not a lot of prep time, but since most of us don’t generally cook with them, I’m going to spell out what you need to do step-by-step.

Remove the leafy greens

First, remove the radish greens and discard or save them for your compost bin or food waste container.

Wash and dry radishes

Next, wash the radishes under some cool running water. Pat dry with a kitchen or paper towel.

Bowl of trimmed radishes

Cut radishes

Trim off the stems and roots. Then slice the radishes in half or fourths depending on how thick they are. Make them a good bite-sized mouthful.

🔪 Instructions: How to roast air fryer radishes

Once the raw radishes are prepped, it’s easy to home cook the radishes. First off, preheat the air fryer for about 5 minutes to 390 degrees F.

After that, place radishes in a large bowl and toss with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and rosemary to evenly coat.

Seasoned and oil covered air fryer radishes

Dump the evenly coated radishes from the mixing bowl into the air fryer basket.

Now arrange the radishes in a single layer on the air fryer tray or evenly in the air fryer basket. Spread them out so as many radishes can touch the pan/basket as possible.

👩‍🍳 Cook time for the air fryer radish

Next, air fry for 20 minutes or until golden and crispy. Halfway through the cook time, at ten minutes, you can use silicone gloves to shake the air fryer basket. Times can vary depending on your air fryer so check and add more time if needed.

Continue to cook until golden, crispy, and fork tender.

To finish, season with extra salt and pepper to taste and garnish with fresh parsley, chopped green onions, or basil. Serve immediately.

Oven-roasted radishes

Alternatively, you can still roast radishes in the traditional oven. Follow the directions until the radishes are well-coated with olive oil, garlic powder, and other spices and herbs.

Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Then bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F for 25-30 minutes or until tasty golden and crispy.

🍲 How to store roasted air fryer radishes

Allow them to cool down completely, then place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 5 days.

Set out before serving and cook as desired. They can be reheated in the air fryer, on the stovetop in a frying pan, or in the oven.

Like most anything, the flavor will be best when freshly cooked. Leftovers are tasty in soups, casseroles, or plain for snacks.
