Highlights of the Tour

So, what can you expect from this incredible tour? Here are some of the main highlights that had me unable to stop smiling.

Hacienda Jacana

One of the standout stops is Hacienda Jacana. Picture this: you’re standing in a lush green field, surrounded by 30,000 coffee trees. That’s right, 30,000! You get to see the entire process—from plant to cup. And the stories and expertise shared by the staff? They add so much richness to the experience, you’ll feel like a coffee farming pro by the end of it.

Jonathan Pérez Marín: The Heartbeat Behind Hacienda Jacana

Let me introduce you to the incredible Jonathan, the passionate owner of Hacienda Jacana. His love for this project is palpable in every corner of the farm.

Jonathan shared with us the original intent behind purchasing Hacienda Jacana was to create a personal sanctuary where he could spend time with friends, raise animals, and tackle crucial issues like food sustainability and water scarcity. What began as a simple desire to grow his own fruits and vegetables quickly evolved into a major agricultural project. Before he knew it, Jonathan found himself overseeing 30,000 coffee trees, 15,000 plantain plants, and a revitalized citrus crop, transforming his hobby into a life-changing venture.

Jonathan’s passion didn’t stop at planting trees; it blossomed into an entire coffee brand.

He elaborated that Latitude 18, the brand born from their coffee ventures, carries deep significance. Named after the 18th-degree latitude, where some of the world’s finest coffee is grown, it also commemorates the resilience following Hurricane Maria. But Jonathan’s ambitions soar further. He didn’t just stop at Latitude 18; he established additional coffee brands, all processed and packaged at Hacienda Jacana to empower more people in realizing their coffee dreams.

His commitment to fostering a community of coffee enthusiasts and sustainable farmers is nothing short of inspiring.

  • Interactive Experience: Witness the coffee roasting process up close and personal.
  • Community Engagement: Learn about local collaborations and how they support each other.

Casa Pueblo

Now, Casa Pueblo isn’t just a stop on the tour—it’s a lesson in community-led sustainability. Founded in 1980, this institution has fought hard against ecological destruction and has succeeded in turning potential mining sites into forest reserves. Their solar energy system and community radio station are just a couple of the many initiatives that make this place a beacon of sustainable living. Casa Pueblo also works closely with the local community to preserve and respect lands and cultures.

Caribbean Chiliboats Tour

Alright folks, buckle up, because I’ve got a story for you about the time I rode the La Parguera Caribbean Chiliboats—and let me tell you, it was an adventure of a lifetime! Picture this: a state-of-the-art catamaran water bike that lets you glide across the water using just your legs.

What Makes Chiliboats So Special?

First off, Chiliboats are as comfy as your favorite recliner but on water. You sit back, relax, and pedal away while soaking up the Caribbean sunshine. It’s like lounging on your dreamy porch with less gravity. These things are rock solid, and super stable—I never had to worry about it flipping over or around.
So, what’s the tour like? Well, let’s just say, if you’ve ever dreamt of finding a hidden gem, the mangrove channels leading to Los Cayos are basically nature’s version of a treasure hunt. This spot is so stunning it feels like Mother Nature made a private pool just for us right smack in the middle of the ocean! Imagine lounging in those turquoise shallows, Caribbean music playing in the background, and you’ve just about captured our experience.

The Tour Experience

The ride back? Equally mesmerizing! Reclined and relaxed, our group pedaled the way back, basking in the golden sunshine, feeling the cool breeze of La Parguera and Cayo Caracoles, and smelling the sea air that makes you instantly feel like you’ve entered a vacation magazine. The Chiliboats cater to everyone—whether you’re adventuring solo, with friends, or as a family. They’ve got single and double options, all safe and certified.

And let’s not forget our awesome tour guides! They ensured a steady pace, making sure even a moderate cardio adventurer like me was comfortable and having a blast. The joy in the other travelers’ eyes, the laughter, the serene moments—all these combined to make memories.

Quick Tips from a Teacher Mom

Here are some tips to make your chili boat experience even better:

  • Arrive early for parking, for a restroom break, and to get the lay of the land. Trust me, it’s worth it.
  • Pack light but smart: water shoes, hat, sunscreen, and your best “I’m on vacation” attitude.
  • Keep an eye on the kids, but let them have their fun.
  • Stay hydrated and munch on the snacks provided.

Chiliboats is more than just a ride—it’s an entire experience wrapped up in the vibrant hues of the Caribbean. Trust me, this was a highlight in the tour you won’t want to miss.

Lesson I Learned So You Won’t Have To

Picture this—I’m on the Chili Boats tour, totally engrossed in the stunning landscape, when I feel it— my fair-skinned legs are burning! My rush before we left to get sunscreen on quickly was a horrible mistake, and so my knees, and some very fashionable lines on my legs, burned spectacularly.

Despite loving every moment of the tour (yes, even with the sunburn), the takeaway here is simple yet crucial—never forget to apply sunscreen thoroughly!

Hacienda Tahiti Verde – The Ideal Glamping Experience

Next up, nestled in the heart of paradise, my visit to Hacienda Tahiti Verde was an experience worth sharing! Imagine waking up to the serene beauty of a dragon fruit farm and stepping outside into the crisp, fresh air for a morning stroll. This exceptional property, dedicated to the art of relaxation and sustainable living, offers an unparalleled combination of luxury and nature. I visited for a lunch during the day and enjoyed a delightful tour of the property, which is also a working dragon fruit farm.

  • Farm-to-Table Dining: Indulge in locally-grown and freshly prepared meals.
  • Eco-Friendly Accommodations: Stay in luxurious eco-villas surrounded by lush greenery.

Staying here means indulging in the ultimate glamping experience—with all the comforts of a cozy home but under the star-studded night skies. The farm-to-table meals are an absolute treat, lovingly prepared, or you also have your own kitchen to make your own meals. This is all right next to an amazing field of dragon fruit!

Evenings are magical, according to the owner and her family, relaxing on your own or enjoying one of the concerts by talented local musicians. Here the soft melodies mingle perfectly with the rustling of leaves and the sounds of nature.

Whether you’re unwinding in a hammock, exploring the lush trails, or simply soaking in the picturesque views, Hacienda Tahiti Verde is a dreamy getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The Natural Beauty of Poncé and Adjuntas

Poncé and Adjuntas are places where nature’s grandeur takes your breath away. Picture tropical jungles, dense green forests, and banana trees lining the roads. It’s like stepping into a picturesque postcard. These areas are rich with culture and traditions deeply intertwined with the natural landscape.

  • Tropical Landscape: Mountains covered in lush forests that make you feel like you’re in another world.
  • Biodiversity: Unique flora and fauna that’ll have you snapping photos left and right.

Poncé Town Square: The Heartbeat of the City

Moving on, it’s time to explore the town of Poncé. Book a Poncé walking tour or explore on your own!

The Poncé town square, or Plaza Las Delicias, is the vibrant heartbeat of the city, buzzing with life and color. This picturesque square is framed by grand colonial buildings and punctuated with eye-catching fountains that glisten under the sun. Two iconic fountains, the Lions Fountain and the Firemen’s Fountain, grace the plaza with their artistic charm.

It’s a great place to grab some ice cream, find a bench, and indulge in some people-watching.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast wandering through the stunning architecture of Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe or a curious traveler exploring charming local shops and cafés, there’s always something exciting to do. The square often hosts lively events, street performances, and markets, making it the perfect spot to soak in the local culture and vibe of Poncé.

We were incredibly lucky to catch the Firemen’s Band performance on a Sunday evening, and it was nothing short of magical! The band, an iconic part of Poncé’s cultural heritage, drew a delightful crowd of locals and curious travelers alike. The sun had just dipped, casting a warm twilight glow over Plaza Las Delicias, creating the perfect backdrop for an evening of music and merriment.

The striking black and red old Firehouse of Poncé

As the band struck up their first notes, people gathered around, young and old, tapping their feet and moving with the rhythm. Families lined the street with camping chairs, children danced with infectious glee, and couples shared quiet moments while soaking in the melodies. The air buzzed with a palpable sense of community and joy, making it clear that this wasn’t just a performance but a cherished tradition.

It was an unforgettable experience that beautifully showcased the spirit and unity of Poncé.
